Membership in AHLA is essential to competing effectively in the health law marketplace. Join a community of nearly 14,000 like-minded health lawyers, compliance and privacy officers, finance officers, consultants, regulatory professionals, providers, CEOs, public health officials, and others interested in health care legal and regulatory issues. See a full list of our many membership types and rates below. Membership in AHLA is individual, so it is fully portable should you change jobs.

AHLA Member Types & Rates

Attorneys

Dues for attorney members (including in-house counsel) are based on a sliding scale, dependent on first bar admission date:

Less than 4 years ago: $245*
Between 4-7 years ago: $365*
More than 8 years ago: $410*

*Dues include a $10 charitable donation.

Non-Attorneys

Individuals who are involved or interested in health care issues are encouraged to join as non-attorney members. These could include: compliance and privacy officers; accountants; finance officers; consultants; regulatory professionals; providers; public health department officials; CEOs; and more. Dues are based on a sliding scale, determined by date of college graduation.

Less than 4 years ago: $245*
Between 4-7 years ago: $365*
More than 8 years ago: $410*

Academics: Academics are full-time faculty at a law or graduate school. Individuals qualifying for this rate automatically receive access to all Practice Group content and qualify for reduced rates for program and webinar registrations. $130*

*Dues include a $10 charitable donation.

Government Attorneys: Attorneys working in a public sector or government work settings qualify for this special rate, and receive access to all Practice Group content, as well as reduced rates for program and webinar registrations. $130*

*Dues include a $10 charitable donation.

Paralegals: This rate is for those who have a title of and work full-time as a paralegal. Paralegal members receive all benefits electronically, and qualify for discounted rates on programs and webinars. $115*

*Dues include a $10 charitable donation.

Public Interest Professionals: Attorneys and non-attorneys working in a nonprofit legal service agency, public interest law firm, nonprofit legal advocacy organization, or public health organization or agency qualify for this reduced rate of membership. Eligible for discounted webinar registration rates. $135*

*Dues include a $10 charitable donation.

Retired: To qualify for this special membership rate, an individual must be at least 60 years of age, have been a member of AHLA (or predecessor organizations NHLA and AAHA) for at least 20 years, and be retired from the practice of law. $110*

*Dues include a $10 charitable donation.

Solo Practitioners: Individuals eligible for this special rate must be in private practice as a solo practitioner. Solo practitioner members also qualify for reduced rates for program and webinar registrations. $200*

*Dues include a $10 charitable donation.

Students (Law and Graduate School): Available to those enrolled full-time in a law school or graduate course of study for up to three years. If an individual is seeking a health law certification but has already passed the bar and/or has previously taken advantage of AHLA student membership, he/she is not eligible to receive it again.

Materials are delivered electronically and the student receives online access to AHLA’s sixteen Practice Groups’ webpages. Student members receive access to the Health Law Archive and all Practice Group content, and are eligible for discounted registration rates for in-person programs and webinars. FREE*

*Students are encouraged to make a $10 charitable donation.

Additional Membership Add-Ons

Practice Groups

Practice Groups (PGs) provide opportunities for members with similar interests in a particular legal area (or members with a particular interest in an industry segment) to stay current on legal developments and industry practices. AHLA has sixteen Groups from which to choose and there is a nominal fee when you enroll in the Practice Group. New members receive one complimentary Practice Group enrollment with membership during their first year.

Want more Practice Group content? When a member enrolls in at least four Practice Groups, he/she may pay an additional $99 and receive electronic access to all of the PG content. Since new members already receive one free PG when they join, they need only enroll in three additional PGs and pay the $99 fee to gain access.

Health Law Archive

Using Google search technology, subscribers to the Health Law Archive are able to quickly and easily search a vast database of health law knowledge, searching more than 30,000 documents from AHLA. As the Association produces additional content, it too is added to the Archive and made available to member subscribers. New members automatically receive a complimentary one-year subscription to the Archive ($125 value).

Public Interest

Your voluntary, tax-deductible donation will help support the development, production, and dissemination of consumer-oriented resources that are provided to members and the public at no cost. Written acknowledgement of the donation is issued to the card holder/check issuer in January each year.
