In-Person Programs
AHLA is an approved sponsor for continuing legal education and continuing professional education credits in most states. We apply for other types of professional education credits when appropriate.
Most programs include a workshop on legal ethics to help attendees fulfill their state requirements.
Sessions are tailored as introductory, intermediate or advanced to offer a selection, which will meet an attendee's level of expertise. For information on how many credits a specific program offers, please check the individual program web site.
Legal credits are calculated based on a sixty or fifty-minute hour depending on the state(s) in which an individual is licensed. Professional/Accounting credits are calculated based on a fifty-minute hour.
AHLA is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit. All of AHLA's in-person programs are considered updates on the topic area being addressed, with the exceptions of the Fundamentals of Health Law program, which is basic. While there are no pre-requisites or advanced preparations required to attend AHLA's in-person programs, those seeking accounting credits should be familiar with the basic concepts of law associated with the topic of the program in order to obtain the full educational benefit.
Participants wishing to obtain CPE credits for their attendance, must sign in and out of each session they attend in order to comply with the NASBA certification procedures.
Attendees are required to complete a continuing education request form in order to obtain a Certificate of Completion.
Obtaining a CLE Certificate of Completion and Reporting Credits
To get a copy of an in-person program certificate, login to the website and click on "myAHLA" then My Education Credits tab. If you do not see a certificate that you need, please contact programs@healthlawyers.org.

Each attendee must fill out the Continuing Education Credit Request Form distributed at each program and return to AHLA in order to receive credit.
Distance Learning
Live Webinars
With the exception of Public Interest webinars, all live webinars are eligible for Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit. Please refer to the Distance Learning CLE State Chart for details regarding specific state guidelines and our CLE reporting procedures.
• In most cases, participants are able to apply directly to their state accrediting body for approval of AHLA sponsored webinars. Pertinent supporting documents (agenda, description, written materials and certificates of completion) are made available for attorneys who wish to self-report their attendance.
• AHLA’s live distance learning webinars are pre-approved for CLE credit in the following states: Alabama, Illinois, Nebraska, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia. Please refer to the CLE chart above to review reporting procedure in these states.
• In certain states, AHLA applies for CLE credit only at the request of the attorneys. Participants in Delaware, Kansas, Nevada and Ohio should email their certificates of completions to AHLA staff at dl@healthlawyers.org.
• Participants seeking CLE credit in Virginia should email their certificate of completion to AHLA staff at dl@healthlawyers.org to receive the appropriate CLE application forms.
• In states in which live distance learning programs are not pre-approved, it is still possible to obtain CLE credit by applying directly to the state’s accrediting body where applicable.
Live Educational Calls
Educational calls, although substantive and interactive, are not eligible for CLE credits.
On-Demand Recordings
We do not apply for CLE credit or issue CLE certificates for our past programs and webinar recordings.
Please check with your State Bar as to whether self-study credits can be awarded - CLE credit may be obtained by applying directly to the attorney’s state accrediting body, but approval is not guaranteed and is at the discretion of said accrediting body. Other, Non-CLE Credits
AHLA webinars are only presumptively approved for CLE credits unless otherwise stated. To obtain other credit types (Continuing Professional Education, Compliance Certification Board, Nursing Home Administrator, etc.) participants may apply directly their desired licensing body, but approval is not guaranteed and is at the discretion of said licensing body and subject to its rules and regulations.
